About us
Winchelsea School is a community special school, meeting the needs of pupils aged 4 – 19, with a wide range of learning difficulties.
We offer an outreach service to educational settings across Bournemouth and Poole, providing advice and strategies to support pupils with SEND. This can be individual, small group or whole school support. We also offer opportunities for staff to visit Winchelsea School to observe practice and embedded strategies in a specialist setting.
Winchelsea Outreach team can support with communication and interaction, cognition and learning or sensory needs as well as offering additional support for pupils with social and emotional needs.

Outreach Offer Guidance
WAVE 1
Assessment Visit (Individual pupil or small group)
A member of our outreach team will observe the pupil/s and then meet with professionals from the school to discuss strategies that can help in the classroom.
Following the visit, a report will be sent containing a summary of the visit, outline suggested strategies, resources and approaches that can support the needs identified.
Parents will be invited to contribute to this discussion.
WAVE 2
Individual Package of Support
When further outreach involvement is requested, a bespoke individual package of support will be implemented which is tailored to the pupil receiving outreach support.
This will involve follow up visits which may also involve a wider group of professionals from different departments within Winchelsea School, including our therapy team where appropriate.
This package offers up to 5 hours of face to face support which will be delivered at a timescale relevant to the pupil’s case. The school and outreach team will work together to develop a plan of support that best meets the needs of the individual case.
Reports with a summary of each visit will be provided with a final report after the last visit to reflect impact and progress made and advised strategies to support ongoing.
WAVE 3
Small Group Package of Support
When a small group is identified (2-4 pupils) A member of our outreach team would target their support to provide strategies for a small group. This group of children must be working within the same space.
This package of support will follow the Wave 2 format.
